about

Welcome to The Lavone's 1990 DIY, 4-track, lo-fi, art-rock epic "A Spectacle for Compassionate Minds". digitally transferred from the best-preserved cassette copies. Spectacle was a year long effort for The Lavone, a band consisting of three high school students, a Rickenbacker, a Telecaster, a Moog, an Oberheim, a drum set, and a Fostex X-26, among other things. It was originally released on cassette on the Nuclear Gopher Cheese Factory label and sold direct to friends and fans. 25 years later, Spectacle returns for those who are interested in this sort of thing.

The Lavone started life in 1986 when brothers Rhett and Ryan Sutter decided to record music under the name. In 1988 they were joined by guitarist and lyricist Mike Thomas and The Lavone became a trio. At the time Spectacle was recorded, Rhett and Mike were juniors and Ryan was a sophomore at Apple Valley High School in Apple Valley, MN.

After the recording of Spectacle, there was a falling out between Rhett and Mike. After recording one more album as a trio, Mike left the band and The Lavone reverted to a duo. Although other members came and went from The Lavone, the core of Rhett and Ryan remained. In 2005, Rhett died unexpectedly and in 2012 Mike also passed away. In their memory, 25 years later, this transfer was made and now it's being released out to the world. So please enjoy these ambitious noises from three kids from Apple Valley as they capture a time that will never come again.
